Police arrest man accused of torching Pakistani-owned hairdresser's
Police on Thursday arrested a 19-year-old man accused of torching a hairdresser's, owned by a Pakistani man, in the northern Athenian suburb of Metamorfosi last month.
Witnesses on September 10 told the police they had seen the Pakistani proprietor of Noor's Hair Salon arguing with two white men who subsequently poured gasoline onto the floor of the shop and set it alight. The two also injured a customer, stabbing him at the shoulder, when he allegedly tried to stop the altercation.
The suspects made off before the police and ambulance service could arrive at the scene.
Police have suspected the attack was racially motivated and was aimed at terrorizing the Pakistani proprietor to move his business elsewhere.
The Pakistani is said to have received threats in the past.
