Halkidiki residents blast police for questioning unaccompanied minor over arson attack
Residents in Ierissos, Halkidiki, complained strongly to police on Tuesday after an unaccompanied 15-year-old girl was summoned to the local police station to be questioned in connection with last month’s arson attack on the offices and vehicles of the Hellas Gold mining company in Skouries.
Locals have protested that authorities are detaining numerous residents and illegally obtaining DNA samples in the absence of legal representation.
Some teenagers have complained that they have provided DNA under duress and were then forced to sign a statement saying they had provided the samples willingly.
Police have denied using illegal methods.
The 15-year-old was asked to return to the police station with her parents and lawyer for questioning.
