The 43-year-old wife of a Greek Orthodox priest who was shot dead on Monday in the Peloponnesian region of Ilia and a 41-year-old man believed to be the woman’s lover faced a prosecutor Wednesday on charges of plotting the cleric’s murder.
Athanasios Avgeripoulos, a 51-year-old father of three from Pyra in Fokida, was shot on Monday when he stopped his car at a roadside after his wife asked to relieve herself, police said.
The woman, who has told police that her husband was killed by two armed robbers, is accused of having set up the ambush on her husband. She is believed to have been having an affair with the 41-year-old suspected killer.
