Water company claims municipal debts of over 220 mln euros
The head of the Athens Water and Sewerage Company (EYDAP), Stelios Stavridis, said on Sunday that municipalities owed the public utility 224.5 million euros at the last count on December 4.
Stavridis said that these outstanding debts are increasing at a rate of 3 million euros a month, adding, however, that the company is in talks with a number of local authorities to put them on a payment scheme to settle their arrears.
The head of EYDAP told Skai that there are certain mayors who are recalcitrant about paying their municipality's dues to the company, saying that they should be prosecuted for dereliction of duty.
