Former ND MPs unveil new right-wing party

Former New Democracy deputies Vyron Polydoras and Christos Zois were on Thursday expected to unveil a new right-wing party.

The new group, which will be called Union for the Homeland and the People, hopes to draw from the pool of anti-bailout, conservative voters who have been disaffected by coalition leader New Democracy's support for the memorandum a political space that has so far been dominated by Panos Kammenos's Independent Greeks.

The party will be led by Polydoras, a former public order minister and parliament speaker who was ousted from New Democracy in December after refusing to support legislation allowing banks to foreclose on some primary residences.

Zois has been out of the New Democracy ranks since February 2012, when he voted against Greeces second bailout. He then joined Independent Greeks but left the party in December of the same year.

In March 2013, he formed his own party, Nea Mera (New Day). Nea Mera will continue to exist but within the framework of the new party led by Polydoras.
