Tsipras to attend Constantine Karamanlis forum

The leader of the main opposition SYRIZA party Alexis Tsipras was expected on Wednesday to attend an event paying tribute to the late Prime Minister and founder of conservative party New Democracy, Constantine Karamanlis, Kathimerini reported.

Karamanlis is credited with signing the Accession Treaty with the former European Economic Community, now known as the European Union, in 1979.

The SYRIZA leader’s presence at Wednesday's symposium organized in collaboration with the Konstantinos G. Karamanlis Foundation was seen as an effort to appeal to voters standing on the centre of the political spectrum as well as reinforce the notion of ideological friction within the conservative party ranks.

Speakers at the “Constantine Karamanlis: Then and Now” forum which takes place at the Athens Concert Hall include former interim Prime-Minister and president of the Council of State Panayiotis Pikrammenos, Benaki Museum director Angelos Delivorrias and ELIAMEP president Lucas Tsoukalis.

The event starts at 7 p.m. and is free of charge with admission tickets distribution starting at 5.30 p.m. For more information, go to www.megaron.gr.
