Athens prosecutor charges three ex-ministers for not fully declaring assets
Three formers ministers – Petros Doukas (photo), Yiannos Papantoniou and Giorgos Voulgarakis – were charged on Wednesday over failing to fully declare their assets in annual derivation of wealth (“pothen esches”) forms.
The Athens prosecutor’s office issued charges against Doukas, a former deputy finance minister, after noting that the savings he declared for 2010 were 1.1 million euros lower than 2009. Voulgarakis, a former public order minister, was charged in connection to 117,000 euros in his wife’s Swiss bank account that the couple allegedly failed to declare in 2007. Papantoniou is accused of not notifying tax authorities in 2008 about a 2.2-million-dollar bank account belonging to his wife.
The case files will be assigned to investigating magistrates, who will question the three politicians. Doukas and Voulgarakis served in New Democracy governments and Papantoniou was in a PASOK administration.
