Prosecutor probes claims of fake medical certificates
Athens appeals court prosecutor Yiannis Sakellakos has launched an investigation into allegations that criminal rings sold forged medical certificates so that senior high school students would be excused from written and oral exams. The complaints were passed on to the prosecutor by the Education Ministry.
It is alleged that some pupils obtained medical papers purporting they had tendonitis, dyslexia or other afflictions that prevented them from sitting exams. The prosecutor has asked for the investigation to cover the last five years following reports that dozens of forged certificates have been issued.
