Firefighters on Thursday were battling a blaze that broke out in forestland near the village of Vassiliko in the Messinia prefecture in the Peloponnese.
Some 20 firefighters manning eight engines, and aided by three water-dropping aircraft and two helicopters, were involved in the effort to douse the flames.
There were no reports of residential areas coming under threat.
