Police searching Pangrati apartment rented by bank robbery suspect

Anti-terrorism squad officers were on Thursday searching an apartment in Pangrati, central Athens, in connection with the double bank robbery in Velvento, northern Greece.

Reports said the apartment had been rented by one of the four suspects arrested after the heist, two of whom have been linked to Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire, a terrorist group charged with carrying out a series of bloodless bomb attacks.

Meanwhile, a memory stick found at an apartment in the Halandri suburb of Athens allegedly used by the four suspects contains segments of proclamations issued after a number of recent terrorist attacks, police said Wednesday.

The device has parts of proclamations made after bomb attacks on the homes of former Finance Minister Yiannos Papantoniou, ex-Environment Ministry general secretary Maria Kaltsa and the offices of Transam Trading Co late last year. The raids were claimed by groups calling themselves Fires on the Horizon and Militant Minority.

A magistrate in Kozani remanded the four men, aged 20 to 25, in custody on Wednesday.

In a statement posted on the Internet, members of the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire urban guerrilla group awaiting trial denied that any of the four suspects were part of their organization.
