Paiania resident guns down robber [Update]

A 25-year-old resident of Paiania, east Attica, shot and killed a 43-year-old foreign national who had allegedly committed a string of robberies in the area in the early hours of Thursday.

According to early police reports, the 43-year-old and two accomplices had broken into at least three residences in the Paiania area early Thursday, before the police was called to the scene to conduct search patrols along with local residents.

The robbers subsequently tried to break into another house but were detected by the owners. The suspects reportedly returned to the area later on and were detected by a group of patrolling residents. One of the group's members, the 25-year-old, pursued the victim and shot him.

The 25-year-old surrerendered to the police and told policemen that the robbers had entered his home and had threatened him mother.
