The General Secretariat for Religious Affairs published a list of clerics’ salaries Friday, amid criticism regarding a government decision to exempt the clergy from salary cuts imposed on the so-called special salaries of certain categories of civil servants.
According to the figures released, newly appointed priests start on a 770-euro net salary (1,092 euros pre-tax), clerics with 10 years’ experience make 1,032 euros net (1,381 euros pre-tax), while Metropolitan bishops with 30 years of experience earn 1,750 euros net (2,543 euros pre-tax).
Archbishop Ieronymos is paid 2,213 euros net (2,978 euros pre-tax) per month.
