‘Maria’ link in new case of baby found at Roma camp

A Roma man and woman, aged 59 and 58, from northern Greece are facing charges of kidnapping a minor after police found that their DNA does not match that of a baby they claimed was their own.

The discovery came during a probe into birth registrations around the country following the notorious case in October of “Maria,” a young girl found living at a Roma camp in Farsala, central Greece, who was initially falsely believed to have been abducted, prompting an international search for her biological parents.

The recent case in Katerini is linked to Maria’s, as the 58-year-old woman claims the baby was given to her by the woman who had falsely claimed to be Maria’s mother.
