Athens universities turn to MIT academics for guidance
A second professor from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has been chosen to head the newly formed governing council at the National Technical University of Athens, days after an MIT colleague was picked to lead a similar 15-member committee at Athens University.
Late on Tuesday, the eight NTUA academics that will sit on the council, along with one student and six non-university members, decided that MIT Professor of Mechanical and Ocean Engineering Michael Triantafyllou should chair the council, whose formation is part of the tertiary education reforms passed in 2011.
Earlier, Triantafyllou’s MIT colleague Dimitris Bertsimas was chosen to head the council at Athens University.
The 15-member panels will be responsible for setting out the institutions’ strategies and overseeing their administration.
