Dozens of undocumented migrant and smuggler arrests made in western port

Police and coast guard officers in the western port city of Patra on Thursday said that they had arrested some 25 suspected human traffickers and over 110 migrants without proper travel documents trying to illegally cross into Italy over the previous 20 days alone.

Most of the migrants were found hiding in large trucks boarding ferry boats heading across the Ionian Sea.

The coast guard also reported that in one truck alone they found 12 underage migrants, while during another check they found two women with two children each.

All the minors and the two mothers were released.
