Public transport upset during Merkel visit [Update]
Public transportation in central Athens will experience problems on Tuesday as part of security measures for the visit to the Greek capital of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and industrial action by protesting workers.
Buses and trolley buses will be pulled off the roads from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. as drivers protest plans for further austerity measures, while police have ordered the closure from 10 a.m. until after Merkel's departure of Syntagma, Panepistimio, Evangelismos, Megaro Mousikis, Ambelokipi and Katechaki metro stations.
The Syntagma and Zappeio tram stations will also be closed for security reasons, while all roads leading from the Hilton Hotel -- where Merkel will be based during her brief visit -- to Syntagma Square are closed off to traffic.
The Proastiakos suburban railway will run as usual, as will the metro service to Athens International Airport.
