SYRIZA leader eyes meeting with German FinMin during Germany trip
SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras is close to arranging a meeting with German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble in Berlin on Monday, sources said on Thursday.
SYRIZA officials said the meeting had not been finalized but sources in Germany said the talks are likely to go ahead.
Tsipras is due in Germany on Saturday for meetings with members of various political parties. If Tsipras meets Schaeuble, it would be the first contact between the SYRIZA leader and a member of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government, which has been critical of the leftist party.
Merkel declined to meet Tsipras when she visited Athens in October.
