Police looking for clues into Filothei woman's murder

Police on Tuesday were looking for witnesses that could provide information regarding the identity of the person or persons responsible for the brutal murder on Monday night of a woman in her home in the affluent Athenian suburb of Filothei.

Police said that the woman, whose identity was not made public, was found bludgeoned to death by her husband when he returned to their home late on Monday.

There were no signs of forced entry, leading police to believe that the 69-year-old woman opened the door to her would-be killer or killers. There was, however, extensive evidence that the home had been ransacked, leading investigators to believe that the motive of the brutal attack was robbery.

Investigators cordoned off the scene and were canvassing the neighborhood in search of witnesses who may have seen something related to the incident, as a corner was expected to examine the woman's body for additional clues.
