Large heroin cache seized at Igoumenitsa port

A 25-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday by coast guard officers at the port of Igoumenitsa, northeastern Greece, on suspicion of drug trafficking.

A sniffer dog alerted authorities to 20 packages containing some 11 kilos of heroin hidden in a purpose-built compartment between the gas tank and the trunk of the suspect’s vehicle. Officials confiscated the drugs and the vehicle.

The name and nationality of the suspect have not been made known.
