The rector of Athens University, Theodosis Pelegrinis, has written to Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias, Supreme Court prosecutor Yiannis Tentes and the chief of police, Nikolas Papagiannopoulos, asking for security to be tightened around the institution’s historic buildings in the city center.
His request was made after a drug addict stabbed a staff member with a syringe outside one of the university’s buildings on Friday.
The victim suffered a leg wound but Pelegrinis said the situation had become “unbearable.”
