Trash collections resume but municipal workers pledge more protests
Refuse collections resumed around the country on Monday as municipal workers ended their protests but their union, POE-OTA, has called for further action, including sit-ins at town halls.
The employees are protesting cuts to wages and funding. POE-OTA has announced that it will take part in three protests this week.
On Tuesday, its members will participate in the work stoppage from noon onwards called by the civil servants’ union, ADEDY.
On Wednesday, POE-OTA will take part in a new work stoppage from noon so members can join rallies as part of a European-wide day of action.
On Thursday, municipal workers in Thessaloniki will walk off the job between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. to coincide with a meeting between Greek and Germany mayors in the northern city.
The Development Ministry announced on Friday that a large number of small and medium-sized enterprises have expressed interest in the European Union-funded program for their support.
