Three Athens IKA workers fired for links to 11-mln-euro embezzlement
Three Social Security Foundation (IKA) employees have been fired after being linked to the embezzlement of 11 million euros, it emerged on Wednesday.
The three civil servants all worked at the Kallithea branch of IKA in southern Athens.
Seven people were arrested last year when four IKA employees were accused of assigning benefits illegally to people not insured with the fund and taking a cut of that money themselves.
A statement by Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis said three of the employees had been fired on February 28 after a disciplinary hearing.
Vroutsis also revealed that they were paid a third of their salaries between their arrest and dismissal, as stipulated by law.
