Greek police warn against virus-carrying online links

The police’s cyber crimes unit on Tuesday warned Internet users to avoid opening links to a series of “shocking” videos that have been online since the weekend as they carry a severely debilitating virus.

The videos to avoid have titles such as “Ghost attack caught on tape” and “Video of huge great white shark tearing apart a sea captain.”

Police warned that the virus, which is activated simply by clicking on the video link, can disable a computer’s security features including its firewall and can interfere with the browser as well as triggering the appearance of advertising banners and so-called pop-ups.
