Terror suspects were under scrutiny since early June

Two 30-year-old suspected members of the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire urban guerrilla group arrested in Thessaloniki on Thursday had been under police surveillance since June 9, Kathimerini understands.

Police arrested one of the suspects after finding his fingerprints on a discarded hand-written declaration claiming responsibility for a booby-trapped envelope sent to the former head of the country’s anti-terrorism unit.

Officers had also recorded several meetings between the two suspects during their surveillance, and have evidence suggesting that they are responsible for bombing the cars of the Korydallos Prison governor and of a jail guard in Nafplio as well as other attacks.
