Athens gears up for Mobility Week

A week of activities aimed at encouraging citizens to leave their cars at home and use other means to get around central Athens is to begin on Monday in observation of European Mobility Week, municipal authorities said on Friday.

The aim is to promote the use of environmentally friendly forms of transport, particularly bicycles, Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis told a press conference, noting that authorities have launched a tender for a bike-hire scheme.

The week is to culminate in a “big party” in Omonia Square next Saturday.
