Failure to evaluate universities puts EU funding at risk
More than half of Greek universities have not completed their external evaluation, which could put their European Union funding at risk, the government body responsible for conducting the process revealed on Friday.
The Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency (ADIP) said that evaluation had been carried out at 171 of 520 university departments.
Apart from receiving EU funding, the process is also necessary so that postgraduate studies can be approved and qualifications recognized outside of Greece. ADIP said it has been unable to complete the evaluation due to a lack of staff.
A staff of 15 people was appointed to man the agency but four employees have been recalled to their original civil service jobs and another three are due to return by the end of the year.
