Onassis reveals 90 pct of referrals from children's hospital are uninsured
Of the 36 patients that have been referred to the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center from the Aghia Sofia Children’s Hospital in Athens since October, 90 percent are uninsured, figures from the hospital have shown.
The Onassis – a private facility that also has beds and surgeries reserved for patients insured with the public healthcare system – has been taking on heart patients from Aghia Sofia for the past 16 months, as the department of cardiac surgery at the state-run facility remains closed pending an investigation into a series of administrative problems.
