Suspect in 'sacrifice to Satan' murder to face prosecutor on Thursday

The 22-year-old man who allegedly confessed to killing a 41-year-old homeless woman in Glyfada, southern Athens, as a “sacrifice to Satan” on April 20 will face a prosecutor on Thursday.

According to a police announcement the suspect had been planning to make another “sacrifice” on June 21. The suspect allegedly told police he had been initiated in Satanism at the age of 14.

The victim, reportedly suffering from depression, was found beaten to death on Easter Sunday on Vaso Katraki Square. The number “666,” considered to indicate the devil, along with a cross were written in the woman’s blood on a nearby bench.

Police investigating the area subsequently discovered a plastic bag containing a large rock covered in the woman’s blood and believed to be the murder’s weapon. The suspect’s fingerprints were found on the plastic bag and his DNA on the bench.

Authorities worked with cyber crime investigators to crack the case after suspicious conversations suggesting a connection to the crime emerged on the Internet.
