SYRIZA mayoral candidate charges blackmail over video rumors

The SYRIZA candidate in last month’s elections for Athens mayor, Gavriil Sakellaridis, on Wednesday reacted to reports pointing to the existence of a video in which he appears to be engaging in explicitly sexual acts.

Writing on several social networking sites, Sakellaridis claimed that he has been the victim of “political blackmail” ever since the first round of local elections on May 18, where he came in a close second to incumbent Giorgos Kaminis, who was ultimately re-elected in the second round.

“I did not succumb and will never succumb to such practices,” Sakellaridis said in one posting.
