The wife of former Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, Viki Stamati (photo), was transferred from Korydallos Prison, where she has been in custody pending trial for money laundering, to the Thriassio Hospital near Piraeus on Sunday to treat a gynecological problem, sources said.
The 49-year-old, who is in custody in the same jail for money laundering, made another appeal for her release from jail, claiming that the media have fabricated a false image of her as a cheap soap opera star.
Stamati has written to the president of the Supreme Court, Rena Asimakopoulou, asking to be freed in order to look after the couple’s 5-year-old son.
