Athens pharmacists extend protest until end of month
Pharmacists in Athens have decided to continue refusing to dispense medicines on credit to customers insured with the National Organization for Healthcare Provision (EOPYY) until September 30.
The pharmacists are protesting EOPYY’s failure to settle its outstanding drugs bill. The decision by pharmacy owners in Athens is in contrast with the Panhellenic Pharmacists’ Association, which decided on Saturday to suspend its action after the Health Ministry set out a payment timetable for the outstanding amounts.
Pharmacists claim they are owed a total of some 1 billion euros.
