NOVEMBER 22, 1951 PLASTIRAS TAKEN ILL: According to a medical bulletin issued from the prime minister’s political bureau yesterday (November 15), Prime Minister Nikolaos Plastiras was troubled by some chest pains last Thursday which forced him to remain in bed. The bulletin, signed by his doctors Professor N. Tsaboulas, K. Maroulis head of the Red Cross Hospital and K. Samaras, a cardiologist, also said that the prime minister has now fully recovered and that his general state of health is excellent. KING INFORMED: The general director of the prime minister’s political bureau Mr Moatsos went to the Palace yesterday morning to inform the king of the prime minister’s illness. He also visited the US Ambassador John Purifoy to brief him. ON MACEDONIA – New York, 21 (from our correspondent): The magazine Newsweek has reported that a group of Greek communists in Bulgaria clashed with a group of Bulgarians because the latter claimed that Macedonia should be annexed to Bulgaria. NO EGGS: Fresh eggs have completely disappeared from the market. They are being sold under the table for 1,700-1,800 each. PRICE OF SOVEREIGN: The price of the British gold sovereign on the stock market is 226,200 drachmas. Given the current state of affairs, it is more than certain that the USA and the EU will take no stabilizing initiatives. The approaching Balkan tribulations will be another test of the EU’s and USA’s mediatory and interventionist credibility.
