Teenage girl assaulted on Paros

A 15-year-old girl was brutally assaulted on the popular Cycladic island of Paros on while taking a late swim with her mother on Sunday evening.

The teenager was on the Chrysi Akti beach with her mother when she went missing at around 8.30 p.m., the Athens-Macedonia New Agency reported.

After searching the area, the mother eventually found the girl behind a cluster of rocks, where she was lying unconscious, with multiple injuries to her face and body. The bottom part of her two-piece bathing suit was also missing.

The teenager was flown by helicopter to an Athens hospital, where a medical examiner on Monday was to ascertain whether she had also been sexually assaulted.

Authorities on Paros were continuing their search for information into the incident.
