Voting for the second round of the Cypriot presidential election has started, with both candidates, conservative Nicos Anastasiades and leftist Stavros Malas having already voted.
Turnout in this runoff appears to be significantly smaller than in the first round a week earlier, with state broadcaster CyBC estimating at 30 percent lower.
Anastasiades, the head of right-wing DISY party and the clear favorite to get elected, called on voters to choose between the prolongation of the current situation and a new era.
Malas, a former Health Minister with governing AKEL, asked citizens to act in unison and decide in unison.
In the first round Anastasiades had got 45.5 percentof the vote, with Malas in second with 26.9 percent.
