Police defend neo-Nazi MP's presence at Easter service for mostly force members

Police sources on Thursday defended the fact that Golden Dawn PARTY spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris, who faces charges of being a member of a criminal organization, was allowed to observe the Resurrection ceremony on Saturday at a church located within the grounds of the Public Order Ministry.

The church is used by police officers but was open to the public for the Easter ceremony.

Speaking to To Vima newspaper, a police officer said that superiors were notified of Kasidiariss presence at the church but a decision was taken not to ask him to leave because the ceremony was not limited to police staff.

Kasidiaris and fellow Neo-Nazi MP Ilias PanaYiotaros were prevented in March from attending a memorial service for two murdered members of the polices DIAS motorcycle-riding squad.
