Family of deceased woman on life support says application for 'special status' had been filed with PPC

The family of a 56-year-old quadriplegic woman on life support who died on Wednesday, allegedly after the Public Power Corporation cut electricity supplies to her home due to unpaid bills, had allegedly submitted an application for special status conceded to people on life support.

Speaking on Skai television on Thursday, the woman's son alleged that although the paperwork had been submitted to the public utility company the family never received any kind of official response to its request.

Speaking to AFP, PPC said that the bill had not been issued in the womans name and that the family had not applied for special status.

An investigation was under way in Chania, Crete, where the woman resided, while an autopsy was expected to be carried out later on Thursday.

The family was expected to file a suit against PPC.
