Local authority workers protest troika-imposed evaluation scheme
Local authority employees staged a demonstration outside the offices of the Interior Ministry in central Athens on Friday in protest at a troika-imposed system of evaluating civil servants.
The evaluation system is being enforced as part of a broader streamlining of the civil service -- one of several pledges Greece has made to international creditors in exchange for continued rescue loans.
Members of the local authority workers' union, known by its acronym POE-OTA, is to meet at 2 p.m. with Interior Minister Yiannis Michelakis to discuss their grievances.
Meanwhile workers were to stage a similar rally outside the offices of the Administrative Reform Ministry which is overseeing the civil service overhaul.
