Piraeus court rejects appeals of accomplices of killer Alket Rizai

A criminal appeals court in Piraeus on Friday rejected an appeal by two men who are serving lengthy sentences for colluding with Alket Rizai (photo), a convicted murderer.

Vassilis Stefanakos is serving a sentence of 21 years and three months for ordering Rizai to murder 43-year-old Constantinos Koutelieris in the western Athenian suburb of Peristeri in August 2006.

A second man, 36-year-old Yiannis Katsios was also killed in the process.

Stefanakos has also been charged with harboring a criminal after he gave Rizai shelter following the killing.

The second appeal concerned the 12-year sentence of Panagiot Papa, who was arrested in Amsterdam in 2009 and convicted in Greece for helping Rizai escape from prison earlier that year by helicopter.
