SYRIZA accused the government of “bringing back memories modern Greeks had not even imagined in their worst nightmares” by appointing as general secretary at the Citizens’ Protection Ministry an official who allegedly served as a deputy prosecutor during the military junta.
In a statement, the public order spokesman for the leftist party, Dimitris Tsoukalas, accused the new appointee, Athanasios Andreoulakos (photo), of serving on a military tribunal that led to six resistance activists being convicted.
“The appointment of a representative of the most violent period in recent Greek history to one of the most sensitive ministries raises a lot of questions,” the SYRIZA MP said.
By Wednesday afternoon there had been no response from the government or Andreoulakos.
