ND Athens candidate to give up MP seat ahead of local elections

Aris Spiliotopoulos, conservative New Democracys candidate for the top job at the City of Athens in the upcoming local elections announced on Wednesday he was resigning from Parliament to focus on his candidacy. The announcement was made during a presentation of the politician's electoral campaign.

Also on Wednesday, SYRIZA deputy Rena Dourou, who represents the capitals second constituency, officially resigned from her parliamentary seat to focus on her candidacy for Attica governor. She was expected to be replaced by Eleni Avloniotou, a former swimming champion.
