Central Athens streets to close a shipyard workers hold protest
Streets in central Athens are due to close as of 11 a.m. on Wednesday, when disgruntled workers from the Elefsina shipyard are expected to gather on Klafthmonos Square on Stadiou Street and to march to the Development Ministry on Syntagma. The protest rally launches a 24-hour strike.
The shipyard at Elefsina, in western Attica, has been in a deadlock with the Ministry of Defense over the payment of commissioned contracts. Workers say that they have not been paid in over a year and are also demanding that the government scrap plans to streamline their sector.
