Fraudsters who claimed dead parents' pensions detained

Police in Attica on Wednesday detained two Greek women, aged 54 and 65, who are alleged to have defrauded the Social Security Foundation (IKA) out of a total of 40,000 euros by used forged documents to claim the pensions of their deceased parents.

The women, who were arrested in two separate raids on their homes, both face charges of forgery and fraud. According to police investigators, the 54-year-old used forged documents twice – in September 2011 and in July 2012 – to register her dead father as eligible for a pension with IKA, thus pocketing some 30,000 euros.

The 65-year-old used similar bogus documents to declare her dead mother as a pensioner with IKA last September, pilfering 10,000 euros.
