Police in the northern prefecture of Pieria on Monday were seeking the five perpetrators behind a robbery on a jewelery store in Leptokaria which was preceded by the mugging of the shopowner's wife.
According to sources, the suspects stopped the 36-year-old Czech woman who had been riding a scooter, cornered her and forced her into their car at gunpoint.
They then forced her to reveal the combination to the shop's main safe which they opened and emptied. The perpetrators also took the woman's bag, which contained 1,000 euros in cash and 1,500 euros in jewelry. The value of the contents of the safe remained unclear.
The robbers abandoned the 36-year-old, unharmed, in a remote area outside Leptokaria before fleeing.
