A coroner in the northwestern port of Ioannina on Thursday described the murder and dismembering of a 48-year-old man in Filippiada, near Arta, as “a crime of inconceivable brutality” after examining the pieces of the victim’s body that were recovered from his home in Filippiada and in a nearby river.
“The body was cut into extremely small pieces in order to dispose of the traces,” Theodoros Vougiouklakis said, referring to “bits of bone and tissue.”
The 36-year-old man charged with the victim’s murder and a 25-year-old woman alleged to have been at the victim’s house at the time of the killing are to defend themselves before an investigating magistrate.
