Firefighter injured in Kastoria from exploding ordnance

A firefighter was undergoing surgery in Kastoria, northern Greece, on Thursday to remove shrapnel that became embedded in his rib area when a shell exploded in a blaze he was helping put out.

According to the fire department, the unnamed firefighter was part of a team putting out a blaze that broke out on a firing range in the area of Dendrochori when a piece of unexploded ordnance went off due to the high temperatures.
