Quake-stricken Cephalonians to leave hotels

Residents of Paliki, the western peninsula of Cephalonia which was badly hit by two strong earthquakes earlier this year, are being asked to leave the hotels they moved to after their homes were damaged by the tremors as the island gears up for the tourist season.

Hundreds of islanders saw their properties suffer serious damage in the quakes on January 26 and February 14 and have since been living in hotels following stints in tents, passenger ferries moored in the islandís ports or, in some cases, in their cars.

Authorities on the island are keen to make the most of what is expected to be a record season.
