Panel to probe Parliament attack by Golden Dawn MP
House Speaker Vangelis Meimarakis has called for Parliament’s ethics committee to convene following a complaint on Wednesday by the main opposition SYRIZA party concerning an August 24 attack by a deputy of ultranationalist Chrysi Avgi (Golden Dawn), Dimitris Koukoutsis (photo), on SYRIZA MP Vasiliki Katrivanou, municipal councilor Petros Constantinou of the extreme-left ANTARSYA party and the president of the Pakistani Community in Greece, Javet Aslam.
Koukoutsis allegedly tried to grab Aslam as he was leaving Parliament and laid into the other two members of the group when they stepped in to prevent the assault.
SYRIZA also expressed its grave concern about a recent spike in racially motivated attacks that have been attributed by witnesses to Golden Dawn supporters.
The Development Ministry announced on Friday that a large number of small and medium-sized enterprises have expressed interest in the European Union-funded program for their support.
