Deadline for ENFIA tax pushed back to September 30

Parliament on Friday approved an amendment to the troubled single property tax (ENFIA), which means that taxpayers will not have to pay the levys first installment until September 30. Previously, it had been due by the end of August.

Fridays vote in the House does not spell the end of the tweaks to the property tax. It is expected that the government will submit a new amendment to Parliament next week to increase the number of installments from four to six and to correct the way the levy is calculated for some 4,000 residential areas around the country following numerous complaints of errors.

Anyone who has already paid the first installment of ENFIA will have this amount withdrawn from the total they owe. The government has not yet decided if this will be withdrawn from taxpayers first installment or their last.
