European leaders confer with Obama before summit

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, freshly-elected French President Francois Hollande and Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti held a video conference with President Barack Obama on Wednesday, ahead of a G-20 economic summit in Mexico next month.

The discussion followed up on talks recently held at Camp David and focused on Europe’s economic crisis and the situation in Syria.
