Clampdown on uninsured vehicles seen bringing in revenues of 250mln
The government plans to raise some 250 million euros in revenues from some 1 million vehicles that are currently uninsured.
According to an amendment to be passed soon, Finance Ministry officials are to conduct checks on vehicles that show no record of having valid insurance. Owners will be notified and given eight days to respond and will face a 250-euro charge that will be collected by the state to renew their insurance.
The imminent law will also lead to drivers losing their licenses for 10 days if they are found driving without insurance.
